Pennsylvania Represenative John Bear Speaks Out Against PLAs on Comcast Local Edition

0 October 2, 2009  State & Local Construction, Uncategorized

PA Representative John Bear calls project labor agreements (PLAs) “discrimination, pure and simple” and said he is “surprised we’re even talking about this [PLAs]” while PA is in the middle of a historic budget crisis during a recent episode of Comcast Local Edition.  Rep. Bear, a leading voice against government waste, recognizes that taxpayers ALWAYS deserve the BEST construction work at the BEST price.  Numerous studies show that PLAs increase construction costs by an average of 12 percent to 18 percent. This is unacceptable.  That’s why Rep. Bear has introduced legislation prohibiting PLAs on state projects.  He understands that openness and transparency provide taxpayers the accountability they deserve from government contracts.  If enacted, this bill would almost immediately save taxpayers millions on the PA prison projects, which we have covered in earlier posts.

Rep. Bear’s outstanding interview is below.  It is definitely worth watching.

Keep up the good work, John!
